Oops, I think I fried it.

The onset of spring and summer always inspires women to lighten up their strands. Highlights are always the go-to. But what do you do in the event that your hair is over processed?

Over-processed hair is generally occurs when lightener formula is too strong for your hair texture, mixed with incompatible product, or simply left to process for an extended period of time.

The Symptoms: Dry, Frizzy, Rough, or spongy

The Downside: When hair is over-processed styling becomes difficult and you cannot actually “fix” this issue.

*(NerdSpeak: Your hair is made of salt bonds, hydrogen bonds and disulfide bonds. When your bonds are in tact wet and dry styling are easy. Once your disulfide bonds have been broken, they cannot be unbroken; causing hair to be limp, spongy and, unmanageable)

The Cure: MOISTURE AND REGULAR 6-8 week trims. As I previously stated, there is no actual cure for fried hair. Moisture plays a tremendous role in helping you hair feel normal again. A Wimpy moisturizer won’t do. Also, lay off the heat. Hair is fragile when the disulfide bonds are not in tact, moderate to excessive heat will cause the hair to break. Don’t be afraid of the shears! Every 6-8 weeks get a trim, this will gradually cut out the damage. Trims are also important in managing spilt ends. Picture a stocking, you get a run in the morning and gradually it creeps all the way to your waist. Split ends are sneaky like that, starts at the ends and moves up!! Save your hair, get a trim.

Moisture Boosters: Paul Mitchell Super Strong- this is my first choice because it’s my personal favorite for dry, damaged hair. Its packed with moisturizing components and lipids to add proties back into your hair.

Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Intensive Treatment- This entire system is amazing for moisture and shine. Replenishes keratin proteins with every use Pure 100%

A Homemade Miracle -shampoo your hair with warm water and towel dry.  Blend 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 2 Tbsp. of whipped heavy cream ( no sugar of course), and one avocado. Apply conditioner from the ends to the mid-shaft. Leave on for 20 minutes under a plastic cap and a towel. Drives moisture in and leaves hair so soft and looking so shiny.

*Note: All of these conditioners are very moisture heavy so it’s best to moisturize only once a week.

Hope I helped (:

xx

Why I Hate My Natural Hair (Mini-Blog)

In 2009 I went to cosmetology school. After learning the chemical breakdown of relaxer, I decided to go natural. Being that relaxer has a higher pH than drain cleaner (14+), I figured that was the best decision. I didn’t transition like most people. I did my own version of a big chop and went from almost shoulder length to a legit mohawk. When y hair first started to grow back I was so impressed with how curly and health my hair felt. But I noticed another change, my hair was THICK! I have always had very naturally thick hair, even when my hair is relaxed.. But this was on another level. Honestly, when it grew back I was ready to cut it all off again. I don’t have the type of natural hair that is kinky or coily. On the curl chart I am a C3; A tight curly w significant frizz. So my question is… what the hell do I do with all this hair?! I looked on youtube at the styles and all I saw what what my sister and I have nicknamed “Mother Earth Styles”. I feel like having natural hair puts me in a corner because all I can wear is braids and random styled afros. I have seen people that wear these styles so beautifully, but that’s really not my wave. I hate braids, and afros and all that on myself. I’m more into edgy styles or sleek sillouhettes. When I went and read some of the blogs from disgruntled natural hair wearers, they were usually attacked and made to feel some kind of way because they aren’t a fan of “black styles”. I hate that people make natural hair about race and black love because I didn’t go natural for that reason. I never felt like I was ugly becasue my hair was wild, I kinda never gave a fuck. Nappy or silky I just want it to look pretty. I’m also natural becasue I just don’t feel I should put drano on my scalp every 4-6 weeks, also I wanted to go blonde and that’s nearly impossible with relaxer. Since I couldn’t figure out what to do with my fro, I considered going back to relaxer or getting a keratin treatment. I resisted the urge and just cut all of my hair off again. But this cannot be the only answer.. What do I do with my hair? I really love my curly hair, but it’s a lion’s mane. I cannot seem to find a product that does what I need it to do and all that organic product is unreasonably priced. Natural hair is frustrating if you’re the long and sily weave type. LOL.. For 3 years I have been cutting off my hair because it’s unmanagable.. Someone has to have answers.. and I need them.

This Tumblr page will expose the Hunger Games fans on Twitter who dare to call themselves fans yet don’t know a damn thing about the books.

And my father keeps trying to tell me racism isn’t a problem.

Wiz Khalifa: Taylor Allderdice

Wiz Khalifa finally dropped his mixtape Taylor Allderdice last night at 8pm. I know for a fact that Wiz lost a lot of listeners with Rolling Papers when he went a more commercial route for the label, but Wiz Khalifa has advanced. Taylor Allderdice is a mixture of dope beats, a playful Kaskade sample and Wiz trying a few different rapping styles. It’s far from a disappointing mixtape and deserves at least one open-minded listen.

Random things… and Joseph Kony

I wish I was either less busy, or more focused on blogging lol.

I have a million ideas but no time to sit and write them I need a partner, I think it would be a good idea to look for one soon if I plan on launching this blog at the beginning of next month.. Another thing to add to an already too long list of things to do.

However, I have decided to do a piece on the Joseph Kony situation. I have seen so many videos that are opposed to the whole project and an outpour of negativity surrounding those that have decided to be involved. All I will say is this: I have done a little bit of research on the whole issue of Jospeh Kony and to my knowledge, he is still living but no longer terrorizing Uganda, though the LRA is still an issue and the country of Uganda has still been negatively impacted by the actions of this man. If people decide to stand up and get involved, that should not warrant negative feedback of any kind, its an option just like not being involved. Here is an article from World Blog that explains the Ugandan situation further.
